I came across Scott Young’s post “Should You Work on Your Strengths or Weaknesses?” It is good post and it makes point that we need to focus on passion and not on strength.
First it didn’t make sense to me, because I believe that we need to focus on our strengths instead of our weaknesses to excel in life. I realized that that word “strength” mean different things to different people.
Scott’s definition of strength is “something you are good at“. Accordingly the definition of weakness is “something you are not good at“. I have different meaning to word “strength”. “Something you are good at” is more a definition of skill to me.
Here is my definition:
Strength is a combination of skills, experience, education build on a top of your natural talents.
Talents are something we born with. It is traits that more or less consistent throughout our lives.
The point here is that the same word can mean different things to different people. Word is just a label and we who assign meaning to it based on our knowledge and understanding. It is important to be aware of this concept, so there is no miscommunication and misunderstanding between people involved.
